About

I didn’t start this to build a following.

I started it because I got tired of going places that were supposed to be good… and weren’t.

San Diego is full of recommendations.
Most of them are safe.
Some of them are lazy.
A few of them are actually right.

This is where I keep track of the difference.

I’m from San Diego. I left for a while, did the UCLA thing, built a career that pays for the kind of freedom I now fully take advantage of — and eventually came back with a different perspective.

When you grow up somewhere, you think you know it.
When you leave and come back, you realize how much of it is just… habit.

This isn’t a guide to everything.

I don’t go everywhere. I don’t try everything.
I don’t care about being comprehensive.

I care about whether something holds up.

Some places are exactly what you expect.
Some are better than they should be.
Some are only popular because no one questions them.

I go. I try it. I decide if it’s worth it.

And I write it down here so I don’t forget — and so you don’t have to waste your time figuring it out yourself.

I’m not trying to be an authority.

I just know what I like.
And more importantly, I know what isn’t worth it.

If you have a suggestion, I’ll consider it.
If you disagree, you’re probably not wrong.
